During our last Mid-term break, a group of Eerde students accompanied by Eerde staff, embarked on an unforgettable trip to Italy and the tiny republic of San Marino. With stops in Bologna, Venice, and Verona, a safari adventure, and a thrill-packed day in Gardaland theme park we explored the diverse landscapes and cultures of Northern Italy. Each day of our trip brought new surprises, excitement, and memories.
Bologna: Sports, Spectacles, and Airbnb Living
Our journey began in Bologna, where we stayed in a cosy Airbnb that gave us a feel for the local lifestyle. Throughout our stay in Italy, we attended two different sports matches. We had the chance to watch a thrilling women’s basketball game between a local team from Venice and a team from Hungary. The energy in the stadium was contagious, and we felt lucky to witness such an intense match. We enjoyed cheering and booing throughout the game, fully immersing ourselves in the experience. The hotdogs were probably the best part of the game.
Venice: Gondolas and Virtual Reality
We also headed to Venice, the city of canals. We had the chance to experience one of Venice’s most iconic traditions – a gondola ride through its winding waterways. The journey through Venice’s canals, passing under old bridges and next to stunning architecture, felt like stepping back in time. Truly a once in a lifetime experience! We also explored Saint Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s palace, and the city’s bell tower.
We also took part in a virtual reality tour that brought Venice’s history to life. Through VR, we learned about the transformation of Venice over the centuries and how gondolas evolved. It was really cool to see how technology and history had been combined in order to make the experience both entertaining and educational. It was after this long yet exciting day that we went to the basketball game.
Gardaland: A Day of Thrills
For a break from sightseeing, we spent a day at Gardaland, one of Italy’s most famous theme parks. The park had a variety of rides and attractions for everyone to enjoy. From roller coasters to water rides, there was never a boring moment!
