In our recent Mock United Nations session, held during the Global Perspectives (GP) and Approaches to Learning (ATL) classes with Grade 9, students took on the roles of international delegates to debate the future of nuclear energy. The session focused on discussing the lessons learned from past nuclear disasters, such as Fukushima and Chernobyl, and the global strategies to ensure nuclear safety moving forward.

Students represented various countries, each with a unique perspective on nuclear energy. They conducted in-depth research to understand their country’s stance, prepared speeches and participated in engaging debates and negotiations. This provided them with an opportunity to apply their research, public speaking, and negotiation skills in a real-world context.

The following delegates participated in the session:
Candela – India
Binck – Netherlands
Maria – Brazil
Mwamba – USA
Azra – France
Christian – Mexico
Oleksandr – Israel
Zane – Germany
Matteo – Georgia

This Mock UN session was an excellent way for students to practice the skills, including critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. It also allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of international policies on nuclear energy and safety.

A big thank you to our  IGCSE & Pre IB Coordinator Ms Gerdien and history teacher Mr Pieter for their incredible involvement in making this event a success.

A special congratulations to all the participants for their hard work, preparation, and engaging discussions! We look forward to more sessions like this that foster global awareness and teamwork.
