IBCP GUIDE

High School Diploma at Eerde

At Eerde we seek to deliver pathways that cater for a range of students of differing levels and abilities wherever possible. For some students the full IB Diploma may not be the right option for them going forward.  This may be for a number of reasons such as:

  • They are not interested in taking subjects from the full range of subject groups, and would prefer to specialise
  • They decide that Standard Level subjects are sufficiently challenging, and so choose to take only SL courses
  • They know that the universities or colleges they wish to attend do not require the full IB Diploma

For these students Eerde has put together a more bespoke option which involves taking a combination of IBDP courses and other courses offered at Eerde, enabling them to graduate with the Eerde High School Diploma (issued by the school) and Course Certificates (issued by the IB).

We strive to develop students who will build a better world through intercultural understanding and respect.

Students following the Eerde High School Diploma follow IB Diploma classes along with our IB Diploma students, but with more freedom to choose a subject combination that works for them and at a level which is more readily achievable.

Students who study the High School Diploma must demonstrate that they have achieved the passing requirements across the last 4 years of high school, and Eerde will accept credits transferred from another school for the equivalent to our grades 9 and 10 (for ages 14/15 and 15/16 respectively) in order to achieve this. We will also accept the Eerde Pre-IB year as contributing to the High School Diploma in place of our grade 10.

Students studying on the High School Diploma must pass at least:

  • 4 years of English at a passing grade
  • 3 years of Mathematics at a passing grade
  • 3 years of foreign language studies at a passing grade
  • 3 years of Social Sciences or Humanities at a passing grade
  • 3 years of Natural Sciences at a passing grade
  • Study a selection of electives which incorporate Art, Physical Education, Music or ICT
  • And participate in Theory of Knowledge classes and Creativity Activity and Service for grades 11 and 12.

Eerde is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the Middle Schools Association (MSA) of the USA. This ensures that its High School Diploma is well regarded by the admissions offices of universities and colleges in the around the world, especially in the USA and in the UK. It should be noted that some public European universities (for instance, in Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands) may require the full IB Diploma, but we can advise you on an individual basis to ensure that the course of study you choose will allow you to achieve your future study goals.
